Ellisville Rotary Run

Even though the temperature was a chilly 45 degrees this morning, the Rotary Run at Howard Technology Park was still an excellent run. It was as flat as could be and made it a fast race. Once I got warmed up around the 1st mile marker, it went better for me. At least, at first. I was running as hard as I could but it felt like I was in slow motion and not going any where. But as I turned the last corner and neared the finish line, I noticed the time clock ... what??? ... no, it can't be ... I was running faster than I ever have before!!! My finish time was 27 minutes, 31 seconds!! That's an 8:51 mile pace. I've never run under a 9 minute mile before, even in my practice runs. Kent did excellent, too. He has been so encumbered with injury since the first of May and have been running very slow - even in races. But he finished a mere 7 seconds behind me. As it turned out, I was only 7 seconds off of winning one of the bigger trophies!! If I had only known the lady right in front of me was in my age group! Sniff, sniff...

Lynne S., a friend of ours, participated, too. She has only run a very little, mostly walked. Today, she ran the entire way. She was so excited that she ran it all without stopping (for you non-runners this is a great step). As it turned out, she even won a trophy. Way to go, Lynne, congratulations!!

My stepsister, Connie, ran in her first 5k today in Arkansas. It was 35 degrees there ... brrr ... I am proud of her efforts, too. She is the last picture in this group. High five to you! It was just a great day all the way around. And, now for some pictures ... the first couple of pictures are of the starting line. Kent is second and me the third from the right. I won first place in my age group and Kent won second place. I'm not lying - check out the pics!!

Thanks, but don't think I will have to worry about 'the case'. Kent has won so many over the years that he has given several away to the grandkids. They really love that. Right now, my goal is to not come in last! Don't know why I worry about that because I never have, but that would be so embarrassing to me. Can't wait for you to get a camper. We're dying to go with ya'll!

Blogging Without Obligation

After coming across what seemed to be the 4000th or so post on someone’s blog starting with “I’m sorry I haven’t posted in awhile.” I decided it is time to rethink what makes a good blog and the expectations that have come to be part of it. I am thinking that no one should utter those words again . . .and with that thought I give you Blogging Without Obligation. •Because you shouldn’t have to look at your blog like it is a treadmill. •Because its okay to just say what you have to say. If that makes for a long post, fine. Short post, fine. Frequent post, fine. Infrequent post, fine. •Because its okay to not always be enthralled with the sound of your own typing. •Because sometimes less is more. •Because only blogging when you feel truly inspired keeps up the integrity of your blog. •Because they are probably not going to inscribe your stat, link and comment numbers on your tombstone. •Because for most of us blogging is just a hobby. A way to express yourself and connect with others. You should not have to apologize for lapses in posts. Just take a step back and enjoy life, not everything you do has to be “bloggable”. •Because if you blog without obligation you will naturally keep your blog around longer, because it won’t be a chore. Plus, just think you will be doing your part to eradicate post pollution. One post at a time. . .
