I Did It ... My First Double Digit Mileage !!!!

Yesterday, I began expanding my runs for the half marathon coming up soon. My plan was to run two miles farther than I've done before to make a total of 10 miles. My biggest issue is to run slower in order to finish the half marathon. By running a slower pace I will be building stamina. To me, it is hard to do this because you're use to running at a certain pace. So I started out checking my watch every mile to see if I need to slow down or speed up or continue my pace of a preplanned 10:30 a mile. Well, I didn't do a 10:30 pace and found I was comfortable at about a 10:10 pace. When I finished my eighth mile, I was beginning a new distance for me. Eight is as far as I had run so far. I felt good and with that in mind, I thought I would speed up to a pace a little more comfortable running. When I began my tenth mile, I thought that I would try eleven miles. I was still on a high and not struggling at all! At the end of the eleventh mile, I checked my speed the last three miles (newer distances) and found I was running better than I have ever run in the past! I was clocking in a little over an 8 minute mile! I've never done that before! I was so excited and finished feeling better than I had previously. Next week ... another 11 miler.

Hooray! That makes me tired just hearing about it. Yesterday I was couped up inside all day with Will and I missed such a beautiful day. I thought that I might walk down our road to the lake and back a couple of times but Will is kind of a scaredy cat and would not let me leave him for even a few minutes. Oh well, chicken pox dont last forever and neither will my sweet boy wanting his mommy. Keep up the good work. I love you and am so proud of the progress you have made.

Blogging Without Obligation

After coming across what seemed to be the 4000th or so post on someone’s blog starting with “I’m sorry I haven’t posted in awhile.” I decided it is time to rethink what makes a good blog and the expectations that have come to be part of it. I am thinking that no one should utter those words again . . .and with that thought I give you Blogging Without Obligation. •Because you shouldn’t have to look at your blog like it is a treadmill. •Because its okay to just say what you have to say. If that makes for a long post, fine. Short post, fine. Frequent post, fine. Infrequent post, fine. •Because its okay to not always be enthralled with the sound of your own typing. •Because sometimes less is more. •Because only blogging when you feel truly inspired keeps up the integrity of your blog. •Because they are probably not going to inscribe your stat, link and comment numbers on your tombstone. •Because for most of us blogging is just a hobby. A way to express yourself and connect with others. You should not have to apologize for lapses in posts. Just take a step back and enjoy life, not everything you do has to be “bloggable”. •Because if you blog without obligation you will naturally keep your blog around longer, because it won’t be a chore. Plus, just think you will be doing your part to eradicate post pollution. One post at a time. . .
