Weekend With The Grandchildren

As usual, our visit starts out in my craft room. It always does ... which is fine with me. As long as the kids want to be creative, I want to be a part of that and give them a chance to express themselves in ways they do not otherwise have the opportunity to. I think creativity exercises and expands the mind in mighty ways. They do a great job and with only a little guidance, it all comes from them.

The first picture is of Spencer deciding on how he wants to make his card. [Ain't he the handsomest 12 year old you've seen??? Nah, I'm not prejudiced!!] Instead of stamps, he decides to draw a tree and add some intricately punched white leaves on Soft Sky cardstock. He then adds some of that great Star Dust Stickles which makes everything gorgeous.

Shelby wanted to make a bright and colorful card. So she chose Pink Passion for her base card, then added a piece of neon green ribbon on the top. A piece of Tempting Turquoise punched top and bottom with the Scallop Edge punch was glued in place. She punched out a piece of designer paper with the Scallop Circle. The Boho Blossoms stamp was colored in various Bold Bright colors, then punched with the corresponding punch. These were raised using dimensionals. Yellow Stickles were used on these pieces. She was very proud of her work and rightly so.

Spencer is holding his snowy tree card on the right. On the left is his pocket card. He used Night Quite Navy ink and stamped the Jeans background stamp on Creamy Caramel. This was cut out using the Sizzix pocket die. He raised the pocket with dimensionals and placed it on an angle on a Mellow Moss card base. He stamped the package from the Birthday Whimsey set five times and cut them out. Using double sided tape they were placed just inside the pocket. 'Merry Christmas' (non-SU) was stamped in NQN on Creamy Caramel scrap and layered on NQN cardstock; then placed on the pocket with dimensionals. It turned out real cute. This one will be for a man.

Below are the pictures taken with Spencer and Shelby. Spencer is wearing the #1 jersey. Shelby took pictures of Kent and I before leaving for church and did a good job. They are growing up soooo fast! I love them so ...

Great pictures! Shelby is getting so pretty and "growny" looking. She and Spencer are such good kids. That Spencer looks so much like his daddy that if he was a little taller, I'd swear they were twin brothers!!! You and Kent have alot to be proud of in those sweet young uns!!!

Blogging Without Obligation

After coming across what seemed to be the 4000th or so post on someone’s blog starting with “I’m sorry I haven’t posted in awhile.” I decided it is time to rethink what makes a good blog and the expectations that have come to be part of it. I am thinking that no one should utter those words again . . .and with that thought I give you Blogging Without Obligation. •Because you shouldn’t have to look at your blog like it is a treadmill. •Because its okay to just say what you have to say. If that makes for a long post, fine. Short post, fine. Frequent post, fine. Infrequent post, fine. •Because its okay to not always be enthralled with the sound of your own typing. •Because sometimes less is more. •Because only blogging when you feel truly inspired keeps up the integrity of your blog. •Because they are probably not going to inscribe your stat, link and comment numbers on your tombstone. •Because for most of us blogging is just a hobby. A way to express yourself and connect with others. You should not have to apologize for lapses in posts. Just take a step back and enjoy life, not everything you do has to be “bloggable”. •Because if you blog without obligation you will naturally keep your blog around longer, because it won’t be a chore. Plus, just think you will be doing your part to eradicate post pollution. One post at a time. . .
