Saturday Madness

We participated in the Relay for Run (cancer) race in Petal today. I don't know where to begin with this one. It was a great race and the coordinators did an outstanding job putting it together! The miles were marked well (not as common as you would expect), the course was flat, the sponsors did what they were suppose to do (at least in the participant's eyes), the location was great (with clean bathrooms close), people in strategic places at turns, and I loved the participation of children along the race course (either announcing "bump" for the speed bumps on the road or handing out water). Everyone seemed like they had a good time.

Well, he finally did it! Kent has fought pulling a muscle for the past month and he thought it was okay now; BUT he was mistaken. About half a mile into the race, he pulled his groin muscle and pretty much limped in at the finish line. He said he almost stopped a few times, but pressed on. He's a "real" runner! Anyway, Kent and I both won First Place in our age groups. The grouping was done in 10 year increments, which make it a little harder to place. I had a PR for a 5k run. My time was 26:18! We had a great time.

I couldn't resist the HOT pizza from Dominos that was provided and had a couple of them ~ shame on me. But the worse part was that I had a cajillion chocolate chip cookies!!! They were soooo good.

When we finished with the race, we went on to Target and bought a small freezer to take with us camping on extended trips. I'm glad that we didn't purchase it when we first saw it because it was now on sale, I mean, about $90 off...yeah! What a great deal. After a quick trip to Sam's, we headed home to get ready for the evening event.

By the time we got home, my head was hurting sooooo bad again, I had decided to stay at home instead of going to our Sunday School party. I mean, I can't miss one pain pill!! I kinda doubled up (don't tell anyone) and before Kent left I felt better and dressed quickly to go with him. Everything was held outside and it was so delightful. My headache disappeared for the time being and we had a nice afternoon. There was a wonderful little breeze blowing and the fellowship was great. There was food, food, and more food. Many, many desserts followed the meal. The Turners were excellent hosts, as usual!

So now you know how hectic it was JUST on Saturday. But we had a great time.

That creeps me out!!! I HATE snakes and I am so scared that Will is going to be outside and come across one by himself. I know I am smothering him but since we live so close to the lake I am afraid of mocassins making their way up there. They are very agressive by nature. What kind was your snake? Kent looked very "manly" killing it!!! I hope to see you before you leave!!

Blogging Without Obligation

After coming across what seemed to be the 4000th or so post on someone’s blog starting with “I’m sorry I haven’t posted in awhile.” I decided it is time to rethink what makes a good blog and the expectations that have come to be part of it. I am thinking that no one should utter those words again . . .and with that thought I give you Blogging Without Obligation. •Because you shouldn’t have to look at your blog like it is a treadmill. •Because its okay to just say what you have to say. If that makes for a long post, fine. Short post, fine. Frequent post, fine. Infrequent post, fine. •Because its okay to not always be enthralled with the sound of your own typing. •Because sometimes less is more. •Because only blogging when you feel truly inspired keeps up the integrity of your blog. •Because they are probably not going to inscribe your stat, link and comment numbers on your tombstone. •Because for most of us blogging is just a hobby. A way to express yourself and connect with others. You should not have to apologize for lapses in posts. Just take a step back and enjoy life, not everything you do has to be “bloggable”. •Because if you blog without obligation you will naturally keep your blog around longer, because it won’t be a chore. Plus, just think you will be doing your part to eradicate post pollution. One post at a time. . .
